As a popular hiking destination in Ras-al-Khaimah, Wadi Shawka is a beautiful and accessible trail suitable for all hikers of all ages and abilities. It offers an all-in-one experience, from off-road drives, natural dams, to greenery and spectacular view of rocky mountains.
Lots of families are attracted to Shawka Dam, a developed rest area and picnic spot. However, when we were there, the Shawka Dam was dry. So, we couldn't see any water but the view was stunning.
It's an easy hiking trail that you can take to a slightly moderate level of difficulty when going off-trail. This off-trail is a favourite to bikers. Therefore, we started the hiking with an easy trail through steps, then we continued off-trail until we reached back to the bottom of the mountain.
It was tough, but such a great feeling to get your heart rate high while hiking up the mountain in the heat and enjoy the paid-off view on top. Then, you could feel your legs' muscles getting tight when hiking down. We did the hike for 5 hours with nearly 23,000 steps in total. This time, we challenged ourselves a bit more to train and improve ourselves through each hike. We accepted the #TheNewMe challenge, to refresh and discover ourselves more out of the comfort zone.
When I see mountains, the weight in my heart is lifted and my restless mind is calm. I know I’m going somewhere beautiful. A wild woman like me cannot be tamed. When I go into the wilderness, a part of my soul is going home.
